Enhance Your Life with Spiritual Wellness Activities: The Key to Self-Love and Belonging

Updated: Nov 12

Your Magenta Monday Magic.

Surrounding Yourself with Positive and Supportive People

“We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, to be loved and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don’t function as we were meant to. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache.”  - Brené Brown

When we look at the vast array of all of the relationships you have, do you know which relationship is THE most important?

That’s right – your relationship with yourself, supported by spiritual wellness activities.

Before you can have a healthy relationship with anyone else, you have to ensure that your relationship with yourself is whole.

Why?

Because if you’re not whole, if you don’t feel worthy of love, you end up looking for someone who can complete you in some way. And I’m not just talking about your spouse or partner.

👯 I’m talking about your best friend.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Your kids.

⛪ Your church group.

Think about yourself as a pie. You start out whole, and then little by little, over time, you assume various roles, and you abdicate little pieces of yourself, until you’re left incomplete.

Like a pie with a piece missing.

Then you go looking for someone else to fill that missing piece.

You twist yourself into a pretzel trying to find acceptance and love – trying to feel worthy.

The thing is– it never works! You will never feel satisfied when you look outside of yourself to make yourself whole.

Never.

You are trying to ‘fit in’, and then you end up trying to be like everyone else just to be accepted.

And if who you are doesn’t match who everyone else is? You fake it in order to be accepted!

Ugh, It’s just like high school!

Before you know it, you are further and further from who you are at your core.

That missing piece is only getting bigger, not smaller.

Here’s the thing: you are trying to fit in versus truly belonging.

As humans, we have a deep desire to belong, but we often confuse belonging and fitting in. They feel the same in so many ways, so for a while, we can pretend that we’re being accepted for who we are.

But eventually, we get worn down and exhausted. We feel depleted, unseen and unfulfilled.

So how do we find those people we belong with?

According to Brené Brown, ‘true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance’.

Bam. That’s it. All roads lead back to you.

Monday Mindshift

It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.

That’s right before you can feel a true sense of belonging, you need to focus your energy on building and repairing your relationship with yourself.

That means spending time in quiet inquiry asking the one question you may have never asked: What do I want? How do I want my life to look and feel? How do I want to show up?

Incorporating spiritual wellness activities into your routine can also help enhance this self-discovery process. Activities like meditation, yoga, or journaling can create space for reflection and growth.

That means taking care of your health – body, mind and spirit.

That means changing the way you talk about yourself – your aging body, your wrinkles – all of it.

That means treating yourself with as much love, time, and attention as you have devoted to everyone else in your life up until now.

Then, as you begin to build your self-confidence, you’ll begin to naturally set boundaries and ask for what you need.

And when that happens, you’re on your way to getting your life into alignment with your true self.

And the pie becomes whole again.

Incorporating regular spiritual wellness activities will also support this journey towards wholeness, helping you reconnect with your inner self.
