It’s so easy to put things off – especially when it comes to dealing with things that aren’t immediately pressing – like planning for our future. I mean, we already have so much going on in our day-to-day life. Who has time to think about what’s going to happen 5, 10, or even 15 years from now? 


Not only that – thinking about your future can feel really overwhelming. 😵‍💫


As with most personal growth work, it doesn’t have to be. Remember, it’s the small steps – the 1º shifts – that make the biggest impact over time. 


That’s how I want you to think about your health in the future – as something you can take small steps towards. It’s way too much pressure if ensuring you’re healthy in retirement looms over you like a gigantic task to be tackled all at once. 


It becomes much more manageable when you break it down and consider the one next thing you can do today that is in alignment with how you want to live your life in the future.



Why Happiness is a Choice You Make and How to Start Today!


The key to succeeding here is spending some time thinking about how you want your life to look and feel as you age cause happiness is a choice you make. You don’t have to get bogged down in all the specifics, or spend a lot of time worrying about whether or not what you want is possible either ... This is your opportunity to dream into your future! 


And here’s a little something extra to keep you feeling motivated: you’ll not only reap the benefits down the road, but you’ll start to feel them as soon as you start taking action! 😊

 

Monday Mindshift

It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.


Set aside some quiet time, consider 5-10 years from now, and ask yourself


✅How do I want to feel? Joyful? Loved? Connected? Adventurous?

✅Who do I want to be with? Friends? Partner/spouse? Family?

✅Do I want to travel? 

✅What part of the country do I want to live in?

✅Will I retire? If so, how do I want to spend my time?


If you’re like most people, being stuck in a hospital or laid up with a bad knee will not make it onto your list! 🤕


As we talked about last week, there are no guarantees in life, but there are definitely steps – 1º shifts – you can take today that will help you live out your dreams 10 years from now. Happiness is a choice you make, and it’s all about the choices you make.


It’s all about the choices you make. 


So make choices today that align with where you want to be 5 or 10 years from now, especially when it comes to your mental, spiritual, and physical health. 


✅Start your exercise routine, whether that means taking a 20-minute walk this afternoon, or joining that gym you’ve been talking about.

✅Schedule that dentist appointment you’ve been putting off.

✅That therapist’s number your friend texted you? Call it.

✅Go to church on Sunday.

✅Text your besties and get a ladies' night on the calendar.

✅Schedule an appointment with that financial planner.


Then pick ONE thing you can focus on. 🎯


Let’s say you want more connection and joy which, let's face it, play a huge role in your spiritual, mental, and physical health. Maybe it’s been a while since you’ve laughed until you cried, and a ladies' night is way overdue.


Break it down into EASY action steps: 

  1. Text my friends and throw out 2-3 dates to get together. 

  2. Put the date on the calendar

  3. Confirm and send out a reminder

  4. Have fun

  5. Repeat


That’s it! Simply taking that first action will help you bring more connection, joy, and love into your life. Happiness is a choice you make, and if that’s something you want in your future, start putting those habits into place today.


You’ll thank yourself tomorrow for what you choose today!
