Your Magenta Monday Magic.
Happy Labor Day!
September is one of my favorite months.
With the shift from the lazy days of summer into fall routines, it’s the perfect time to explore the things in our lives that we are grateful for.
According to Martin Selilgman, gratitude is one of the 10 most common positive emotions along with joy, serenity, interest, hope, pride, amusement, inspiration, awe and love.
Let’s explore just why gratitude is so powerful. It has been proven to:
Improve mood and a sense of well-being. Feel better by focusing on what you are grateful for instead of what you don’t have.
Improve health and longevity. Studies from the University of Kentuchy indicate that there is a relationship between positive emotions and a longer life. Plus it lowers blood pressure and increases immunity.
Make you present to the joy in your life. No matter what else is going on, you can choose to find joy throughout your day.
Reduce stress and boost well-being. When you experience gratitude, you feel better in the moment.
Cultivate resilience. Meaning you are better able to bounce back from stressful events and experiences.
Increase performance and engagement at work. Leading to a higher level of job satisfaction.
If you’re thinking, “All this sounds pretty great, but just how do I increase gratitude in my life?” try this little experiment.
Savoring
Savoring is the act of being aware of an experience that brings you joy and appreciating the impact it has on your overall mood. You can savor things from the past, present, and future.
In the present. Think about something happening right now that can bring you joy. Perhaps it’s a cup of coffee or tea, a delicious meal, or the smell of your favorite flowers.
In the past. Ever reminisced with a friend over a funny or meaningful experience? When we reminisce, we can enjoy the experience all over again.
In the future. We can also savor experiences that haven’t yet happened such as a trip we are planning.
There are hundreds of chances to increase gratitude in our lives. It starts with simply noticing what you already have.
Monday Mindshift
I have attached the Live BRIGHTer Blueprint for your use in diving deeper into developing your gratitude practice throughout this month and on your own.
Activity: Establish a regular gratitude practice. Each night before bed list 3 things you are grateful for that happened during the day in your journal or notebook.
Remember, consistency is key when it comes to gratitude. The more we do it, the better we feel.
Love Xoxo,
PS. I’d love to hear what mind shifts happened for you this week! I invite you to share your wins or what surprised or challenged you with us in Thriving Mom’s Collective FB Group!
