Your Magenta Monday Magic.
Last week we explored personal growth, fear, and the concept of bravery as a tool for growth. Being willing to step into the unknown is the first step toward creating a life you love!
It’s Valentine’s Day this week, so I want you to celebrate by getting clear on what’s most important to you and then committing to it - no matter what!
Values are a great place to start.
“A value is a way of being or believing that we hold most important. Living into our values means that we do more than profess our values, we practice them. We walk our talk - we are clear about what we believe and hold important, and we take care that our intentions, words, thoughts, and behaviors align with those beliefs.” ~ Brené Brown.
Yet, this isn’t always easy to do.
We’ve all seen it when people hold strong to their values. Like the passionate environmentalist who uses rideshare, refuses to use disposable containers, reuses and recycles everything, and carries around a reusable water bottle.
We’ve also seen the person who says the environment is important to them, but drives a big SUV, uses plastic sandwich bags like they’re going out of style, doesn't recycle, and drinks 7 plastic bottles of drinking water a day.
Maybe you’ve even been there yourself. (Don’t worry, I have too!)
This is why values are so important. When we know our values, we know what we can let go of, and where we need to walk our talk.
But that’s just the first step.
Maybe the environment is one of your top values, but actually reducing your environmental footprint feels like too much. There are just so many choices. How can you possibly do them all?
The good news is you don’t have to go cold turkey and overhaul your lifestyle all at once.
Remember that a value is not something that you can just cross off or achieve. Instead, it is something that you continuously aim to live and move towards. As long as you’re making conscious choices whenever you can - getting a reusable water bottle, buying some reusable silicone storage bags, and recycling more often - you’re making progress.
Once you get a handle on some small choices you can start looking at other areas such as refillable, powdered laundry detergent, or reusable cotton rounds to remove your makeup.
Yes, you may subject yourself to ridicule next time you show up to a gathering with a large jug of water and paper cups instead of a case of plastic bottles, but that’s what being brave is all about.
Get clear on what’s important to you, then defend it as if your life depended on it.
Monday Mindshift
It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.
Sometimes to move forward, it helps to explore what really matters to us. Just what do we value and why?
Take some time this week to get more clarity around your values. Gift yourself at least 30 minutes of quiet time, download this values worksheet, and get started!
Follow the instructions to choose 2 words that best represent who you are at your core.
Then, spend some time examining what ‘living your values’ looks like in your life.
Start taking the baby steps to get you there.
Here’s the really cool part.
Over time, you’ll start to notice when your actions are out of alignment with your values. This can become a powerful guide for your decisions.
