Your Magenta Monday Magic.
Can you believe it’s the end of the month already, the trees are shedding their fall colors, and Halloween is upon us?! 🍂
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been a big fan of Halloween. I just never got excited about dressing up, and with our long, dark driveway – and the fact that we live in a neighborhood without sidewalks or street lights – we don’t get any trick-or-treaters ringing our doorbell.
As soon as my kids moved out, I actually got rid of all our decorations… which led to me being fired from hosting our Halloween week book club because my place just didn’t suit the mood.
If there’s a Halloween equivalent of Scrooge, I guess I would qualify! 😆
I know there are many people who LOVE Halloween (you know who you are), so in the spirit of the season, I think we can enjoy the festivities AND also use the holiday as a catalyst for personal growth and self-discovery – because just like the changing leaves, we too can undergo transformation, and emerge stronger and wiser on the other side.
So, in the interest of having a little bit of fun, I thought I’d share some playful ‘Halloween-themed’ ways for you to lean into personal growth as you navigate this midlife part of the journey. 🎃
Embrace midlife transition and transformation: Midlife is a time for us to embrace change and adapt to a new phase of our life. Just like Halloween's transformative spirit of dressing up to transform your identity, you can celebrate the changes you’re going through – regardless of whether or not you’re into costumes (guess who’s the latter?).
Face Your Fears: Halloween is all about the spooky stuff – but at the same time, it’s infused with a spirit of fun. Similarly, we can confront our own fears in a playful way. As midlife women, we can take this opportunity to be brave, facing our own fears and anxieties head-on – whether they're related to personal relationships, whether or not to retire, or more generally, what the next part of our life will look like.
Celebrate Inner Strength: Consider your favorite Halloween heroines, from witches to woman warriors. This summer gave us countless heroic female icons to admire – on the global stage we had Barbie Beyoncé and Taylor Swift – and you may have had other strong women to admire closer to home. Regardless of who they are, where they live, and what size of audience they have, these badass women inspire us by embodying strength, resilience, and courage. Remember that YOU possess these qualities too – even if they’ve been buried so deep inside that you no longer see them in yourself. Take some time now to tap back into your inner strength and celebrate all the strength and wisdom you have accumulated now that you’ve arrived in midlife.
Cultivate Relationships: Halloween is a communal celebration, and it's a reminder of the importance of connection. Why not use it as an opportunity to reach out to friends and loved ones to gather and share stories and just generally support one another as you move through your own personal growth journeys.
Set New Goals: Transitioning from one season to the next is a perfect time to reflect on what goals you want to achieve as you enter the next phase of your life. Whether it's pursuing a new hobby, advancing your career, or deepening your relationships, Halloween can mark the beginning of your journey toward these aspirations.
If you'd like to discuss personal growth, share your Halloween traditions, or simply chat about life, I'm here for you. Let's support each other on this exciting journey through midlife.
Wishing you a spooktacular Halloween filled with personal growth and insightful self-discovery! (See? When I put my mind to it, I CAN play along). 👻
