Your Magenta Monday Magic.
Don’t raise a stink.
Just sit there and look pretty.
Go along to get along.
Don’t rock the boat.
Is it just me, or are messages like these part of your inner dialogue to reclaim your power?
We absorb subtle messages like these from our environment – picking them up at home, at schools, in the media, or from our culture leading to cultural conditioning – and they weave their way into our subconscious until we act accordingly. Often we’re not even aware we’re doing it. 🙈
Somehow I learned not to be a bother to other people, which had a huge impact on how I showed up in the world.
Those messages manifested in simple ways like never asking for a better table in a restaurant or tending to avoid conflict with coworkers to keep the peace. All of these behaviours served to allow me to blend in and consequently, keep me in the background of my own life.
It wasn’t until it became clear that these behaviors weren’t working for me – in fact that they were actually hindering me – that I had to make some different choices.
I came to see that continuing to fade into the background would keep me from living a life of joy and love and purpose and passion and most of all, true connection. I had to dig deep and explore what I really wanted my life to look like. I had to make some hard choices and have some very difficult conversations. 😟
It wasn’t easy, but I realized that going along to get along not only no longer served me, it would serve to ruin me.
And that realization drove me.
It drove me past my fears of what people would think. It drove me past all my doubts. It helped me ask hard questions and listen to the answers – whether I liked them or not. It was a turning point in my life trajectory. ⤴️
Each time you don’t speak up for yourself, each time you keep the peace, or don’t speak up for something you believe in, you abdicate your power one little piece at a time.
But, it’s time to reclaim your power. 🏋️♀️
What does this have to do with your health?
When it comes to seeking treatment – whether for menopause symptoms or for a far more serious health concern – stepping into your power requires you to advocate for yourself.
How exactly do you do that?
✅Ask questions
✅Seek multiple opinions
✅Do your research on treatment options
This is especially true when it comes to treatment for menopause symptoms.
When I sought support for my the symptoms I was experiencing, I found myself caught smack dab between one provider who absolutely refused to write me a prescription (based on a stage 0 DCIS, breast cancer diagnosis I had in 2013) and another who believed wholeheartedly in the health benefits of HRT and had no issue writing a prescription despite my history.
Confused, I sought a third opinion from a menopause specialist who told me that based on my history, there wasn’t enough research to show that taking HRT would be safe for me.
I had my answer.
Armed with enough information to make an informed decision, I was able to confidently decline taking hormones.
Remember, you are your own best advocate. Prioritizing your health is no exception to that rule.
Monday Mindshift
It’s the 1° shift that makes the biggest difference over time.
Spend some time in quiet reflection to ask yourself some of these questions:
✅Is there anywhere that am I abdicating my power?
✅Am I taking care of my physical, mental, and spiritual health goals?
✅Am I asking enough questions?
✅Are there areas in my life where I need to take my power back?
If nothing comes to mind immediately, that’s okay!
✅Sit with the questions.
✅Observe your interactions with others.
✅Listen to how you speak about yourself.
If you start to see areas that could use improvement, don’t judge yourself.
Reclaim your power accept what is, and then take action to shift it the next time. 💫
