The Difference between a Want and a Need

Your Magenta Monday Magic.

April is here and this month’s pillar is all about exploring the importance of relationships and connections in our lives.

“We are biologically, cognitively, physically, and spiritually wired to love, be loved, and to belong. When those needs are not met, we don’t function as we're meant to be. We break. We fall apart. We numb. We ache … The absence of love and belonging will always lead to suffering.”

_Brene Brown

As moms, we pour ourselves into the community, friends, our significant other, kids, work, sports teams, and religious/volunteer groups.

As a result, we end up at the bottom of our priority list!

This week the focus is going to be on celebrating SELF and how to nurture your relationship with...well, YOU.

Today is my birthday. I’m celebrating 56 years today (yay!) and am still continuously working on my relationship with myself.

It’s been a struggle for me to wholly accept and love my aging body (wrinkles, crepey skin, spider veins, rounding belly), but I also have discovered a newfound appreciation for everything my body has done for me over the years.

It’s birthed healthy, beautiful children and thankfully doesn’t have any physical challenges or illness. I’m so grateful to be able to get up each morning with ease, take my walk and work out pain-free.

So, at this time in my life, I am choosing to slow down and listen to my body and soul.

It’s time to ask myself what I need.

Maybe a nap? Maybe a walk? Maybe it’s time to bust out the paints?

What I realized long ago is that if I am not whole within myself - body, mind, and spirit - then I can not truly show up for anyone else.

Monday Mindshift

  1. Sit quietly and take 3 deep breaths. Take a minute to ask yourself what you need in that moment.

  2. Focus on something nurturing and restorative.

  3. Go do that.

  4. Take a minute to journal how you felt after you did it. Was it hard for you? Did you feel a sense of calm?

I invite you to take note of how you feel before and after the exercise and share it with other moms in our Thriving Moms Collective Group on Facebook.

Enjoy each delicious moment because your body and soul deserve it!

Love Xoxo,
